Walburga Kramer

Description

Walburga Kramer and her husband are both retired and neither of them are in a good physical condition (1). A few months ago, their granddaughter Ellie told them about sustainability and how important it is, to act now to save the environment (2). While Walburga herself has only started to learn about the environmental impact of her choices, she is happy to see her granddaughter so invested in this topic and so she tries her best to learn more and “do her part” (3).

The introduction to YumShare was a big help for Walburga and her husband, since it is both a source of new information and makes the selection of “sustainable” products much easier for them (4). She is especially glad that she can use the delivery option to reduce the time her husband spends driving to grocery stores, since she does not have a drivers license and she gets the impression that driving becomes more and more risky as he continues to grow older (5). The varying offers also give her the opportunity to apply more of the cooking knowledge she has collected over the years, as they can no longer just buy the same meals they always buy (6).

She tries to bother Ellie as little as possible with technical difficulties while handling the YumShare application, in a fear of annoying her with repeated calls about how to handle a phone (7). As a result she mostly focuses on processes she is familiar with or that seem easy enough for her to learn on her own (8). Walburga hopes to use the time she saves by avoiding technical problems, for more discussions about sustainability with her granddaughter (9).

Goals

Attitude towards sustainability

Walburga understands mostly what she can do to act more sustainable, even though she is only beginning to learn about the concrete environmental consequences (10). Her granddaughter is eager to assist her and Walburga in turn is willing to learn more on her own time (11). Now she mainly gets her food from YumShare, as that is, according to her granddaughter, guaranteed to be more sustainable than if she goes to the grocery store herself (12).
